Clarification On Abolition Of MeCD Soon, Says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- The government will give detailed clarification on the dissolution of the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Developement (MeCD) soon, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. He said the clarification on the dissolution and functions of the ministry which had been absorbed by several other ministries following the announcement of the new Cabinet last Thursday would be made either by him personally or the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Sidek Hassan.

However, he gave an assurance that all functions placed under the responsibility of the MeCD previously would be attended to by the other ministries.

"Initially, everyone is interested to know...but I assure you that everything is considered important...when the new Cabinet was formed certainly there were people who were wondering why it was abolished, but in principle, it is still given priority," he said after a Tahlil and prayer session at his residence, here today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, when announcing the new Cabinet on Thusrday, had not included the MeCD in the list of ministries under his administration.

Najib later issued a statement informing that all agencies under the MeCD had been reorganised and absorbed by several other ministries, including the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.
