TEKUN Ready To Help During Economic Crisis

KANGAR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- TEKUN Nasional, an entrepreneur development institution, hopes to help ensure that Malaysians are able to ride through the current global economic crisis with the various schemes and programmes it is offering.

Its managing director, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hassan said the institution, which makes available funds and business opportunities, is always ready to offer assistance whether it is financing or business guidance when the individuals are really serious about running their business.

"We have good relations with 70 companies who can afford to provide business opportunities and TEKUN Nasional is ready to approve immediate loans between RM500 and RM50,000 within 14 days," he told reporters here today.

For loans less than RM3,000, they can be approved within 48 hours and it makes sense to go for these loans rather than borrow from an Along, he said.

The service charge is only four percent and the payback amount can be negotiated depending on the borrowers' affordability.

Loans taken through TEKUN Nasional also does not require a guarantee or collateral.

TEKUN Nasional was previously known as Yayasan TEKUN and offered only easy and fast financing services, but effective February last year and in line with the change in its name, it has been positioned as an institution for the strategic development of entrepreneurs.

It no longer just helps with the provision of business capital but also offers business opportunities and ways of generating income, advisory services as well as support and networking help for entrepreneurs.

Abdul Rahim said for the whole of 2008, a total of RM360 million was allocated to financing although the earlier figure projected was only RM160 million.

The increase in financing is good as it will go on to help people raise their economic standing, he said during a briefing programme here on the facilities and opportunities offered by TEKUN Nasional.

As for this year, by January alone, a total of RM92 million has been approved and the figure is expected to continue to go up.

Today's event was officiated by Menteri Besar Perlis, Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu.

Abdul Rahim gave the special briefing to an audience of 1,000 comprising civil servants, smallholders, local leading figures and members of the public.

He said between 1999 and 2008, a total of RM1.3 billion had been approved by the institution to 171,148 borrowers throughout the country.

On another note, Abdul Rahim also reminded existing borrowers to make their timely payments in order to give opportunities to new borrowers.

Abdul Rahim said he was also looking at the group of workers retrenched due to the economic crisis with the view to encouraging them to get involved in the business line.
