SIIUC Conduct Taranum Programme for Quran Teachers from the Maldives
BANGI, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Some 20 participants from the Republic of Maldives received their certificates from the Director-General of the Department of Islamic Development in Malaysia (JAKIM), Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz, at the closing ceremony for the Intensive Quran Taranum (Recital) Programme conducted by the Selangor International Islamic University (SIIUC) here, Thursday.
The Taranum Programme was conducted at the request of the Republic of Maldives, based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between SIIUC and the Maldives government.
According to a statement released by SIIUC, the Maldives need some 1,000 teachers, who are fluent and well-informed in the nuances of Quran recitation, to conduct Quran recital classes in the island republic.
Twenty Quran recital teachers from the Maldives participated in the month long programme which started on 6 July.
The classes were jointly supervised by TV1 Interactive Quran Recital winner Ustaz Mohd Rozie Mohd Rejab, who is also a SIIUC staff, Ustaz Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Nur Manutty and Ustaz Imran Kamal Bashah, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia lecturer Ustaz Wan Mohd Helmi.
Best Student Mariyam Suhana, 23, who attended the programme together with her husband, expressed her wish to return for further training.
"I wish to be a good qariah (Quran reciter) and learn more on the Bayaati, Shoba, Hijaz, Nahawand, Rast, Sikah and Jiharkah Quran recital styles," Mariyam said.
According to Wan Mohamad, the Taranum programme would eventually be extended to other foreign nationals.
