IWK Training Programmes Impress Foreign Countries
By Frank Julian Martin
JOHOR BAHARU, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Impressed with Indah Water Konsortium's (IWK) sewerage management system, several countries in the region are sending their employees for training with the company, IWK senior general manager K. Mahesan said.
He said among the countries which had obtained IWK's training service were Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
"Recently, we trained sewerage workers from Bali at the IWK Technical Training Centre in Bukit Jalil.
"We have also been invited to Hanoi and the Philippines to conduct training for their workers," he told Bernama at the launch of the IWK Safety and Health Awareness campaign in Taman Desa Tebrau here today.
He said Vietnam had started building its water treatment plants with the enforcement of its Environmental Protection Law 1999 and in adhering to other related regulations.
"Vietnam has to train its workers to manage the treatment plants and they see IWK as capable of providing the training than getting the service of western countries.
"IWK's training module is on par with those offered by western countries and, most probably, cheaper," he added.
The training provided by IWK includes for executives, engineers and managers. It encompasses planning, designing, building, testing, operating and maintaining the sewerage system.
On today's campaign, Mahesan said it was to inculcate awareness among IWK workers to exercise a high-level of safety and to observe all operating procedures to avoid any untoward incidents.
"With training and continuous reminders for the workers, IWK will be able to retain zero accident at the workplace until the year end," he added.
