IPOH, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Work to upgrade the Sultan Azlan Shah (LTSAS) Airport here will begin early next year as soon as a contractor for the project is appointed by the Transport Ministry, said Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

He said the Cabinet at its meeting yesterday had approved RM60 million for the upgrading work.

"It is to extend the runway from 1,800 metres to 2,000 metres and upgrade Customs and Immigration facilities," he told reporters here on Saturday.

He added that once complete, the airport would be a hive of activity and thus further spur economic growth in Perak.
